Album Production

We have several engineers who love to double as producers with compatible artists.

Album production is an intimate affair, as the artist and producer are trying to become one mind and one heart on the task of making the music the best it can be.

For many years there was only one version of a producer: a record producer…

Nowadays however, many people get confused because there are commonly 2 kinds of producers. Their respective functions are outlined in the corresponding articles below. Hopefully we can help clear up the confusion…

Record Producers

The purpose of having a record producer is to receive real-time constructive feedback and to be given strong and focused direction into what you are trying to achieve. A producer plays many roles in the album recording process, and every record needs a different approach. Working mainly as a link between the listener and the artist, a good producer is one who SEES the music for its potential and can help the artist develop it further. Production is a collaborative art.

Beat Producers

A beat producer is someone who creates original compositions of rhythmic structures that a rapper or soul artist writes lyrics for. Beats can be created exclusively for one artist or licensed out to multiple parties. Depending on the arrangement, this is generally where this relationship ends…

Though sometimes, an artist will use the same beat producer for many albums and have them tailor beats to their style and even arrange songs or parts. In this case, the producer would give sway to the final outcome of an album, just as album producers might.

Voice Over Recording

We offer voice over recording for a great variety of projects, such as podcast and radio productions, film, commercials, educational videos and software, audio books and more. Former clients include ESPN and WNYC as well as individuals who wanted to capture their written work in audio form. We love to hear what you have to say!

Great sound requires quality equipment, knowledgeable workmanship, and attention to detail. Sprout City Studios has a great compliment of mics, pre’s, outboard/plug-in processing, and a knowledgeable crew. With 3 halls, one vocal iso-booth and a large main room for recording, we can accommodate just about everyone, and definitely ANY TYPE of project. We have recorded groups containing up to 12 members in this space.

We’ll work with the talent of your choice but we can also connect you with voice over artists suitable for your project.

If you require phone patch, we have standard connections via Skype, GoToMeeting or simply speaker phone. However, we do not possess ISDN.

We also offer live recording, music video production, venue & home studio consultations, and more....

Internships are available to anyone willing to commit to working hard around and for the studio.

It is not easy and is a major commitment. There is much to learn and a lot of work to be done.

We offer a trade of 3 hours of you working for 1 hour of play time in the studio to do as you please.

Please do not consider this unless you’re able to commit at least 4 hours a week for 6 months minimum.

Mastering: The final step in making a recording.

As opposed to mixing, the mastering stage is no longer about balancing instruments or song arrangment. It is mostly about maximizing the impact of the whole album/single, making the music sit well next to similar recording artists, and making sure that the frequencies involved in the recording are well behaved.

This is achieved by using ultra-high quality equipment, both analog and digital, a great set of ears looking out for the best possible dynamics & total frequency control.

Check out our Liquid Mastering page to experience the magic.

Set up an appointment for a free tour of the studio. We'd be happy to show you around.

*Note that we may be in session,  so no drop-ins please. Call, email or shoot us a text message to make an appointment.
