I first found Sprout City after reading a flyer in UO’s School of Music for Thaddeus’ sound engineering course. Ever since taking that class I’ve been trying to spend as much time as I can there, learning the ropes and the ins and outs of professional audio.

While my main areas of expertise are in rock, pop, and hip-hop, I love exploring new territories and getting out of my comfort zone. And even though I do produce my own music and play guitar, I am just as passionate about recording and mixing, because every part of the process, from idea to finished song, is just as important and creative.

Although my recording process is ever changing, at the moment I enjoy running vocals through a Neve 1073 for a clean, upfront sound. Some of the tools I reach for most often are an 1176 compressor, an LA2A for limiting, an SSL EQ, and Soothe for de-essing. I also love everything that Soundtoys does, and frequently utilize their reverbs and echos. While most of my process is done in the box, I’m always looking for ways to incorporate more analog gear into my sound. But at the end of the day, it’s not about the gear you use, it’s about the music you’re making and the people you’re doing it with.
