- What do you expect from Interns?
- What kind of experience do I need?
- What will I get out the internship?
- How do I apply?
The ideal intern is someone highly motivated to make recording music a serious career or at least a part of their professional experience. We are looking for someone willing to commit themselves to making the studio a better place for our clients to work in, who is a quick learner, has good communication, and has a true passion for making great recordings. Eventually, our hope is that you become comfortable enough with working in the studio with the skills necessary to work as an independent engineer on your own out of Sprout City.
If you cannot commit to at least 6 months of helping out around the studio, then an internship isn’t the best fit. That doesn’t mean you can’t be involved in some other way! Just that an internship really takes time to be benficial for both parties.
We have weekly (with some exceptions) times that we have interns come and help clean up around the studio, help build content for social media and the website, and working on contacting clients, past and future.
You don’t need a degree in audio engineering to intern here, or to work here. You DO need to know about how microphones work, outboard gear, software, etc. Whether you learn that through a college course or on Youtube does not matter as much to us as how well you grasp that information and whether you know how to use it to be helpful in and around the studio.
We highly recommend taking our Fundamentals and/or Intermediate Sound Engineering courses. Most of our current engineers have taken these.
You will get experience learning about how recording studios work, how to interact with clients, what different types of gear we use, and how we use them.
In addition, we like to reward you for your time and give you opportunity to learn hands on, so, for every 3 hours you give us, we will give you an hour of studio time. We have set parameters and time slots set aside for you to use this time. You can come mix your own project, record something, or get some tutoring or feedback on a recording from Thaddeus or Christian.
If you’re seeing this page, then you’ve already contacted us about interning and been sent here to read through this info. Please make sure you’ve read through it all and that you’re sure that this commitment is something you want to do.
If so, please fill out the form below.
You can upload your resume here. Please be sure that the file is in PDF format and does not exceed 25MB.
We will be respond as soon as possible. Feel free to check in on your application after 2 weeks via the contact form on our site.
